Elgin V Berwick at Borough Briggs - Match Preview

Elgin deprived of Niven's services

Elgin City will be without captain David Niven through a knee injury as they look to end a run of three consecutive league draws against Berwick Rangers.

The Borough Briggs side, who won handsomely 5-1 over East Fife in the Scottish Cup last Saturday, welcome back the pacy Lewis Halford after a calf injury.

Manager Ross Jack said: "It was a terrific win last week but we have to remember that we started quite slowly and could have been a goal down as East Fife bossed the first 20 minutes.

"If we play like we did once we got into our stride against Berwick then I am sure we will be celebrating that first Third Division win in a few weeks."

Berwick are without the injured trio of Marc Lancaster, Dean Droudge and Damian Gielty.

To make matters worse, winger Fraser McLaren is also a major fitness doubt.

Shielfield manager Ian Little is targeting a win, saying: "Elgin are a strong side particularly at home where they use the pace of their attacking players to great effect.

"They certainly like to score a few goals but if we can shut them out and get a win we would move to within a point of them in the table.

"We played really well against Stenhousemuir last weekend and were unfortunate to only draw. It would be great to be heading into our replay with them on Tuesday with a win over Elgin under our belt."
