Moray Select's first game

Last updated : 09 February 2005 By Joe MacKay
It is intended to play home matches on the grounds of the various Moray schools that have lads involved with the select squad.

With games coming up against established teams all over Scotland the coaches thought it would be a good idea to try the lads out against older and stronger lads, namely first year academy teams.

Forres Academy kindly agreed to entertain the select team for their first ever game together.

It was a tough ask of the lads as in primary school football it is 7-a-side and the offside rule is unthought of. For the first time the lads were asked to play offside and 11-a-side.

The lads were told not to worry about the result but to go out and learn and enjoy the experience. After going 2 – 0 down early in the first half it looked like being an uphill struggle. However the lads showed tremendous character and spirit to not only level the scores, but to go on and win the match 4 – 2.
The coaches would like to extend their thanks to Forres Academy for giving us the opportunity to play this match.

If there are any team coaches reading this article that would like to play a match against the select team please contact Elgin City who will pass on your details to the team coaches.
