Cowdenbeath were well worthy of their three points as they enjoyed a comfortable victory over the black and whites. A well-organised Cowdenbeath defence managed to keep the lively Martin Johnstone at bay.

Although Cowdenbeath dominated the match, it was Elgin who had the first real chance in the fifth minute when an Alan Muir corner was met by a powerful Johnstone header which shaved the bar on its way over

In the 16th minute a controversial penalty was awarded for a foul on Liam Buchanan which Iain Mauchlen converted and Cowden never looked back.

Twelve minutes later Cowdenbeath had the ball in the net again, only this time it was ruled out for offside.

In a fairly physical match, picky refereeing decisions broke up the flow of the game and we had to wait until the 54th minute for the next chance. A long ball played over the top found Ryan McCallum one-on-one with Kieron Renton, but his volley sailed over the cross bar.

Elgin's hopes of getting back into the match were dealt a massive blow in the 73rd minute as a slack headed back-pass by Stuart Cumming was intercepted by McCallum, and he kept his cool to finish.

Cowdenbeath finished off the job in the final minute of the game as Buchanan got on the end of a delightful cross to header past the helpless Renton.
