Stenhousemuir and Elgin City will go into next weekend's matches with it all to play for despite the fact that it was Stenny who were celebrating thanks to a quickfire double at the start of the second half.

Having netted crucial early goals in their last two home games, Elgin went straight for the heart once more and it took them five minutes to find the back of the net through the league's top scorer Martin Johnston, however the linesman's flag soon halted the celebrations.

Johnston was causing the visitors a host of problems and having beat two he shot over the bar from 25 yards as Elgin continued to apply the early pressure.

Then at the other end Hugh Dickson had to intervene on the goal-line prevented John Paul McBride from giving the visitors the lead after some chaotic defending.

Mark Booth should have given Elgin the lead when he intercepted a slack back-pass to go clean through on goals, but he shot tamely at the keeper's body and the half ended goalless.

The second half was barely a minute old when Iain Diack broke the deadlock when he ran through unchallenged before applying a clinical finish to give Stenhousemuir the lead.

Diack then showed his determination to the cause with a run that eventually saw him colliding with the post in the process of laying on a second goal. Paul McGrillen was on hand to tuck the ball away at the near post if it hadn't already gone in.

There was to be no way back into the game for Elgin and despite some nerves showing in the visitors' defence as the game drew to a close, it was Stenhousemuir who left happy and the season is now set perfectly for a nail-biting conclusion involving both these sides.
