Elgin City 1-1 Stenhousemuir

The young striker put Elgin ahead on the hour mark before Lee Collins equalised for the visitors in a game that could easily have gone either way.

The action started straight away as Elgin were given a scare in the first minute of the game. Steven Kerrigan, Stenny’s best player of the afternoon, headed past Keiron Renton only for Jamie McKenzie to clear it off the line with a diving header.

Gradually Elgin came into the game and their first chance came when ex-Warrior Martin Harty delicately chipped the ball over the visitors defence to set Reid clear. Reid’s pace took him into the box unopposed but his shot went wide of Willie McCulloch’s left hand post.

Andy Roddie forced McCulloch into a couple of saves before the veteran winger created an excellent chance for Paul Kaczan. Roddie’s cross from the left found the centre half perfectly in six yard box, Kaczan was given time to steady himself as his marker slipped before shooting wide.

Stenhousemuir went up the pitch from the goal kick and gave Paul McGrillen the ball inside the box. The diminutive striker snaked his way inbetween two defenders before putting in a shot that was well turned behind by Renton.

The visitors also started the second half the brighter. Renton saved from a McGrillen header before a Keith Knox cross was hit over the bar by Kerrigan.

As in the first half, Elgin forced their way into the game. Harty threatened twice in quick succession, his 30-yard shot was well held before a surging run and shot was parried by McCulloch.

Soon afterwards, Reid played a one-two with Harty in the box and fired into the bottom corner to give Elgin the lead. Reid almost got a second fifteen minutes later but after going past two defenders, McCulloch robbed him of the ball.

After already having two goals disallowed – one for offside, one for a foul on Renton – Stenhousemuir put pressure on Elgin for an equaliser. McGrillen shot into the side netting and Kerrigan had a header tipped over the bar before Collins forced the ball into the net after a stramash in the 78th minute.
