Elgin started the brighter of the two teams and were already looking to build on last week's results. They took the lead after nine minutes when a cross from Jamie McKenzie on the right-hand side was met by Martin Johnstone, who converted a spectacular overhead kick from eight yards.

The home fans' joy was short-lived as East Stirling levelled four minutes later when Scott Livingstone rose above the Elgin defence to head home an Adam Owen cross from six yards out.

East Stirling were fortunate to reach half-time with all 11 men as McKenzie played a through ball to Martin Johnstone who went round the advancing Derek Jackson from 20 yards out before being fouled by Stephen Oates, who escaped with only a booking.

There was little goalmouth action in the second half as both sides cancelled each other out and tempers flared as frustrations grew.

A McKenzie header after 66 minutes went agonisingly over and a David Hind strike in the 68th minute flew narrowly wide.
