Elgin City welcomed Stenhousemuir to Borough Briggs for the final fixture of the season. Last week's defeat at Hamden condemned City to at best a final position of 6th.

Elgin almost capitalised on some slack marking by Stenhousemuir. Hugh Dickson strayed forward to deliver the ball inviting to William Martin but the City striker saw his effort go straight into the hands of William McCulloch. Stenhousemuir took the lead in controversial fashion as Kieron Renton was a judged to have handled Hugh Dickson's inadvertent back pass to the anger of the home support.

From the resulting free kick, Joe Savage fed the ball back to David McInally who wasted no time in lashing the ball into the right hand corner. Stenhousemuir made it two in quick succession. Paul McGrillen showed good vision to switch play to the left hand side for David McInally. The goalscorer turned and gave the ball back to Savage who curled a delightful effort past Renton from 25 yards into the top corner.

Elgin almost replied with a goal of their own when a Fraser Bremner clearance fell to the feat of William Martin who showed good composure to beat William McCulloch, but hit the woodwork as the ball agonisingly rolled across the goal line before being cleared to safety.

Elgin once again pushed for a goal and created two great opportunities in the space of a minute. Andrew Roddie drove the ball in from the left for captain James McKenzie, who saw his effort cannon back off Robbie.

Stenhousemuir almost hit Elgin City with a sucker punch catching the City defence cold. Savage went in search of a second goal of the game but saw his point blank effort saved by Renton.

Stenhousemuir should have made it three with the first clear cut opportunities of the second half. Savage beat the offside trap but failed to test Renton when he possibly should have squared the ball to fellow goal scorer David McInally who would have had an open goal.

Elgin finally pulled a goal back when William Martin flick fell to the feat of Stephen Donnachie who saw his initial effort saved, but the rebound was turned in by James McKenzie, J who scored against his former club.

Stenhousemuir reacted by attacking at the other end and were denied a goal by the width of the crossbar.

A corner from the left hand side was swung in and met by Savage but the ball cracked back off the underside off the bar to the dismay of Savage. Elgin almost grabbed an equaliser as James McKenzie, J hit the woodwork. Fraser Bremner did well to cut the ball back from the touch line where James McKenzie, J who with the drop of the shoulder turned his man but shot over the cross bar. Moments later Stephen Donnachie passed up a good opportunity to level matters as he latched onto a William Martin cross but saw his efforts brush past the post.

Elgin deservedly grabbed the equalised on 67 minutes when William Martin struck the woodwork but fortunately Stephen Donnachie was on hand to turn in the rebound. A minute later Donnachie grabbed his second of the game as Elgin found themselves in the lead for the first time in the match. Donnachie showed great desire and determination to break through the heart of the Stenhousemuir defence to cooly slot the ball past William McCulloch, W and to send the home support into raptures.

Substiute Paul Napier but the icing on a fantastic second half performance for the Black and White. Adam Nelson sent Paul Napier wide on the left and 'Pele' cut in to curl the ball into the top corner via the aid of the post to score his first ever goal at senior level.
