Gunn fires Elgin to victory

Craig Gunn's hat-trick helped Elgin secure a 3-2 win at Montrose.

Ross Jack's side came into the game on the back of three straight wins in the Third Division and went ahead at Links Park after six minutes when Mark Nicolson's pass from the left set up Gunn to open the scoring.

Martin Boyle was unlucky not to level moments later, his right-footed volley hitting a post, before midfielder Terry Masson equalised for the hosts with a low, long-range drive after 29 minutes.

Gunn restored the Black and Whites' advantage four minutes before half-time, sweeping home Archibald MacPhee's assist before they were again pegged back, this time Boyle converted Steven McNalley's cross six minutes after the interval.

The visitors were not to be denied however, Gunn again on hand to find the net with a tidy finish 20 minutes from time to earn Elgin all three points.
