Elgin denied top spot

Elgin missed the chance to go above Rangers at the top of the Third Division after being held to a 1-1 draw at Peterhead.

The mid-table hosts went ahead midway through the first half through David Cox, but Stuart Leslie's ninth goal of the season on the hour ensured it ended all-square.

The Blue Toon began found their groove early and Scott McLaughlin fired a 25-yard effort into the post and Rory McAllister brought a fine save out of John Gibson.

But they deservedly went ahead in the 23rd minute when Cox drilled a low effort in from the edge of the area.

Elgin immediately piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser and Leslie twice headed off target before half-time.

The second period followed a similar pattern and Ross Jack's side finally levelled in the 60th minute when Leslie converted Daniel Moore's cross.

Leslie had a chance to win it as in the final 15 minutes but he was denied by a brilliant save from Graeme Sharp.
