Stenhousemuir won 2-0 at home to Elgin City at Ochilview Park.

After last week's debacle against East Stirlingshire, Stenhousemuir made five changes to the starting line-up against bottom of the league Elgin.

They were rewarded for this with a two-goal win to maintain their 100 per cent home record thanks to two strikes in the first half.

Elgin had started positively and Martin Johnston brought out a fine save from Willie McCulloch with a swivel, turn and shot from the edge of the box after nine minutes play.

Gradually the home side started to make inroads and they took the lead in the 24th minute when Stephen Lowe deflected a David Templeton cross into his own net.

Templeton grew in stature after this and another cross saw a goalmouth scramble end with Gareth Hutchison firing against the base of the post in the 32nd minute.

Two minutes later Hutchison should have scored from another Templeton cross, but screwed the shot across goal with the target gaping.

After 38 minutes however the game was effectively ended when a mazy John Baird run was illegally stopped on the edge of the box and Templeton stepped up to place the ball just inside Renton's bottom right-hand post.

In the second half it was the home side who created the better openings but were unable to get the finishing touch.

Templeton came closest however with an individual effort piece of skill that eventually ended with Renton getting the faintest of touches to put the ball on to the crossbar.

Stenhousemuir thus avenged their Challenge Cup defeat at Elgin earlier in the season as they managed to put the woes of last week behind them.
